’The Tower, as part of the Play On Words Festival 2025, is proud to present ‘Before Alice’, the story of Alice, who, after a stint as a botanist, decides to leave the pressurised world of academia to open her own plant and flower shop in the market town where she grew up.

As Alice’s past haunts her in unexpected bursts, she confides in her only companion - her favourite cactus. Will she overcome her worries, her social awkwardness, the trappings of her traumatic past before opening her doors for the first time tomorrow?
